The Midland is one of 55 community news publications operated by Nexcom Media (NEXcom Digital, Inc.), an American local news media network based in Conroe, Texas.
The thesis
Local journalism is infrastructure, not content marketing. Sourcing rules, review and corrections for every property are handled by one central Nexcom editorial team in Texas. The properties are not independently staffed and have no separate newsrooms; they share the same technology, distribution and compliance layer.
A growing network of local briefings across 50+ communities. Zero paywalls. Zero VC. Zero algorithmic ad-tracking.
How our newsroom works
Nexcom publications are automated and rule-governed. Our systems monitor named local sources — city governments, school districts, regional publishers and official feeds — then draft brief summaries that link back to the original reporting. People set the editorial rules, review flagged items and published samples, and correct the record when we get something wrong. Articles do not receive individual human review before publication.
We do not invent bylines, quotes, or facts. Every article names where its reporting comes from, and links to the original report whenever a source link exists. Corrections: editor@nexcom.media.
